How to refurbish cheap synthetic wigs! | Tutorial

Hey guys! It's Julia!

Today, I will be doing my first tutorial!
I will be showing you how to refurbish cheap synthetic wigs. This is in no way a professional tutorial, and it all depends on how bad of shape it is. (Cut hair, tangles, or bad treatment/washing.)

As all of you know, wigs get very tangled. This is what my wig looked like. (I don't have actual pictures.)

GARBAGE

Ok, all jokes aside, the wig looked disgusting. I was 90% sure that it was unfixable.
But, I was able to make it look like this!
Now, the tips of the back DO NOT feel as good as they look. So just be aware, this is NOT for softening a wig! Also, do not use this for quality wigs, I don't want to make you loose you expensive wig. ;-;

Step 1. Fill your sink or bucket with water.

THIS STEP IS NOT REQUIRED FOR FABRIC SOFTENER, FILL THE CONTAINER WITH FABRIC SOFTENER INSTEAD.)
Fill your sink/container with enough water to drown your wig. It may be easier to pin the wig to the Styrofoam head and wash as if it were a salon! Make sure every inch of the wig is covered.

Step 2. Add the fabric softener or shampoo/conditioner.

For a softer wig, use fabric softener. For a decent looking wig. (Or low budget.) Use shampoo/conditioner. Now, the shampoo I use works better for untangling than the conditioner. But, it is not a common brand. So use both if you need to. Lather/lightly scrub the wig with the needed amount of untangling solution. This will vary with thickness and material of synthetic wig. IF you are using fabric softener, just let it soak for a few hours to overnight.

Step 3. Wring out your wig.

Drain the water out of you wig by squeezing it with your hands. Leave the wig damp for combing. It will be easier to comb when wet. While I was combing my wig, I plugged in a small fan and set it on low. Keep a towel underneath wig, or nearby and wipe surface regularly.

Step 4. Comb your wig.

Take a comb you don't use, and start combing your wig. Be gentle, because cheap wigs are not very strong. Keep in mind, you may not be able to get ALL of the tangles out. (I definitely didn't!) There are several tips to remove tangles if you can't comb them. Refer to cosplayers on YouTube. Another option, use some leave in conditioner, or you may call it, detangling spray. They come in bottles and you can spray some on, and like magic, the tangles get brushed out right away!

Step 5. Dry wig

Let your wig dry in an open space, leave the fan on. (IF you used one.) OR, you can use a towel. Make sure the wig cap is dry, you don't want any mold! Eww....

Step 6. Enjoy your wig!

Make sure to keep it untangled and clean! keeping it on a Styrofoam head really helps!
