How to Decide on a Cosplay | Advice

Image
How to Decide on a Cosplay | Advice Hello everybody, today I will be talking about how to decide on a cosplay. Deciding these things can be very hard, the wrong choice can be regretful. Look at your resources. My Edward Elric coat. Take a look at your fabric, wigs, and other supplies. What can you make NOW? Or what do you have ready?  Yes, you can buy more supplies. But, if the convention is near. Or, if you're like me and spent all your money on the tickets. They can be expensive and hard to get.  Take a look at the panels. Same coat, but refurbished for Keith. Maybe you'd like to be part of a cosplay panel and you can make a costume for it. Or, there's a panel with voice actors from your favorite series you'd like to cosplay at. Think about your deadline and current interests.  You may like your Voltron cosplay, but be really into Undertale at the time and go as Undyne. Go in a cosplay that you will be excited about and happy...

Keith Kogane and Kyoya Ootori Cosplay | Work in Progress

Image
New Cosplays! Hey guys, I'm back and here to stay after a needed break. The school year got very busy, but you don't need to hear it! You came for some awesome cosplays! Please, keep in mind these are both works in progress. Keith Kogane You all remember my Edward Elric cosplay? Well, I took the red jacket, and folded/cut it to be smaller! I then hot glues strips of felt fabric for the yellow and white pieces. I am almost done, but I need to add the collar and possibly a zipper. I feel like using the base jacket saved much more money and overall improved the quality and efficiency.  I have some tuning to so and some more progress, but if you have any suggestions or comments, leave them below! Keith Jacket: Back Keith Jacket: Front Kyoya Ootori This next cosplay was made in about an hour! I will be wearing it to a cosplay panel, which I may post here. Kyoya Ootori is from Ouran High School Host Club. The school has a uniform, which all the ...

Kagamine Rin! | New Cosplay!

Image
Kagamine Rin! | New Cosplay Hey, guys! It's Julia! Today I wanted to show you guys a new cosplay I'm working on!  I had attempted this in the past with my.... old cosplay blog. Let's just say, this one is going a LOT better than before. While of course, it's not perfect, it's pretty good for my skill level. If you guys do not know who Kagamine Rin is, she is a Vocaloid. Her first name is Rin, her last name is Kagamine. (Yknow, in Japan they say the last name first unless you're friends.) As you can see, I am not done with it at all. I have the ribbon, collar, and trim done. The collar is uneven, as you can see from the leaning on the back. It looks better once I put it on, but I still plan to fix it. The ribbon curves in intentionally to remove the flat look. I think it makes it look like leaves! The trim on the bottom was made with felt. I do not recommend doing this, but I fixed it. It made the bottom fan out and stick stra...

Posing Tips for Cosplay Photos | Tutorial

Image
Posing Tips for Cosplay Photos | Tutorial Hey Guys, It's Julia! Today, I wanted to give you some tips I've learned from YouTube, cosplay contests, and personal photo shoots.  If you want some extra information, there are many YouTube videos.  This one helped me a lot:  How to Pose Like a Pro Silhouettes:  This was one of the points discussed in the video, and this truly works! I'm sure most people know about "Who's that Pokemon?" from the Pokemon anime. This is what I'm talking about. In this photo, you can tell this is obviously Pikachu. Even without minor details, colors, and a face. In photos, you should be able to be recognized as that character. I understand that some cosplays are hard to distinguish without the minor details. If this is the case, be sure to express your emotions. The silhouette should be able to be translated as, angry, sad, happy, and etc. To enhance this, try to keep your limbs apart so you will not create ...

EPIC WIG/SUPPLIES ORDER!! | Update

Image
Epic Wig/Supplies Order!! | Update Hey guys! It's Julia! Today, I wanted to tell you i ordered a TON of stuff on amazon! (I'm getting half of it tomorrow!!) You don't  have to read this, because I will be doing an unboxing video, but go ahead if you want!  Wigs I Ordered: Princess Allura | White Wig: Wig Link  This wig is heat resistant, and very useful! I will mainly use it for my Allura cosplay, but I will be using it for female Shiro and female Papyrus! I'm sure if you are able to, it is able to be cut. (And styled.) Edward Elric | Blond/Yellow Wig: Wig Link This wig is not heat resistant, but comes in three colors! (I probably should've gotten the lighter one but whatever!) Many anime characters are blonde, like Winry, so it's very useful! Roy Mustang/Keith | Black Wig: Wig Link (The picture on the link was styled like Roy, but also works for Keith!) This wig is for me, but I will be le...

Should I Cosplay in a group or alone? | Discussion

Should I cosplay in a group or alone? | Discussion Hey, guys! It's Julia! Today, I will be discussing the topic of group cosplay and solo cosplay. I have done both at least once and watched several videos on the subject. Sometimes, people wonder if they will get lonely cosplaying alone. Not necessarily. When I cosplay, I've always brought a friend to at least watch me. You can always make new friends at the convention! (Just be safe.) Cosplay can be a good conversation starter. However, if you go alone, you can be lonely. Although, this will apply to any event whether you're cosplaying or not. But, solo cosplay can lead to easier planning. You wouldn't have to save spending money for all of your friends. (If needed, this is sometimes a problem.) Or cosplay in a group with people who don't know anything about the characters. For example, I really like the Voltron: Legendary Defender series, but my friend knows nothing about it. I almost made her wear a c...

How to refurbish cheap synthetic wigs! | Tutorial

Image
How to refurbish cheap synthetic wigs! | Tutorial Hey guys! It's Julia! Today, I will be doing my first tutorial! I will be showing you how to refurbish cheap synthetic wigs. This is in no way a professional tutorial, and it all depends on how bad of shape it is. (Cut hair, tangles, or bad treatment/washing.) As all of you know, wigs get very tangled. This is what my wig looked like. (I don't have actual pictures.) GARBAGE Ok, all jokes aside, the wig looked disgusting. I was 90% sure that it was unfixable. But, I was able to make it look like this! Now, the tips of the back DO NOT feel as good as they look. So just be aware, this is NOT for softening a wig! Also, do not use this for quality wigs, I don't want to make you loose you expensive wig. ;-; Step 1. Fill your sink or bucket with water. THIS STEP IS NOT REQUIRED FOR FABRIC SOFTENER, FILL THE CONTAINER WITH FABRIC SOFTENER INSTEAD.) Fill your sink/container with enough water to drown yo...

Roy Mustang Costume | Update

Image
Roy Mustang Costume | Update Hi guys! It's Jewel!   This is most likely the second to last update about the Roy Costume. I have completed the sewing and dyed it. TIP: Do not use thick fabrics for dyeing. It does not get a very good color.       I used two fabrics for the shirt and pants. Yes, It's not very professional, but I ran out and needed to finish it. The pants, which were a loose fabric, worked very well with the dye , but the shirt did not. The shirt was very thick, and turned out as a light purple-blue.  OF course, I worked too hard on this to let it go to waste, so I will still allow JC to wear it. However, I will not be using it as a craftsmanship entry for the mini con. As for the full con, I will most likely make her another costume to go with my Allura costume. Perhaps, Keith will do. PLEASE learn  from my mistake!! If you're not sure, don't. (Unless you don't care, and by the way, I let it soak for an hour.) Roy Mustang Cos...

Cosplay Contest Thoughts | Discussion

Image
Cosplay Contest Thoughts | Discussion Hey guys! It's Julia! Today I wanted to share my thoughts on Cosplay Contests! This will be mostly, if not all, positive. I love cosplay and entering contests, so let's begin! At a local Mini Day-Con, I have entered the cosplay contest two years in a row. The first year as Link, from the video game series, The Legend of Zelda. The second year, (last year) I entered as Rose Quartz from the cartoon, Steven Universe. I have a lot of fun every single time I enter, and they get better every year! One of my favorite reasons to enter, is because I can talk to new people. I remember the first year, I talked to this nice lady in a beautiful cosplay. (I don't remember who she said she was.) We talked about ordering/making cosplays and I turned her hand a light shade blue with my badly colored sword. (It was permanent marker, Haha.) She then told me, "Never color wigs with permanent markers because it will look like someone stabb...
